Fire starters may seem unnecessary because you can build a fire without them, but certainly help accelerate the process. They’re super easy to make and one of the easiest DIY projects only needing only:
- Saw dust
- Paraffin wax
- Something to mold them (like this)
Last year, I gave my brother some red candles (paraffin wax) which got a little too close to my wood stove and started to melt. He simply melted the paraffin wax, mixed it with saw dust, and then packed it into a star-shaped mold.
For Christmas, my brother packed them into a nostalgic cookie tin (one which my grandparents used to buy frequently when we were children). After weeks of letting them sit in my cabinet, I opened them one night after my son asked for a treat after dinner. Much to our chagrin, the cookies turned out to be fire starters. We were disappointed and pleasantly surprised at the same time!
